Yogi’s ‘stardom’ continues

July 26 2020

The ‘fire’ of UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has been revived ever since gangster Vikas Dubey was killed in a police encounter. Yogi’s was reportedly severely miffed when Vikas Dubey and his henchmen killed 8 policemen and soon after the incident when UP Police DGP HC Awasthi sought time to meet the Chief Minister, the DGP was sent a message by the CM, “What is the need to meet now? Why are coming to me empty-handed? Do something and show me.” The DGP had understood the message very well, and the events after that are in front of everyone. Now an attempt is being made to probe the political connections of Vikas Dubey, but it is a bitter fact that Dubey had travelled from BJP to SP to BSP, and this time around he was fighting to contest assembly elections on BJP ticket. It is worth mentioning that in 2001, Vikas Dubey publicly murdered Santosh Shukla, Minister of State for the BJP Government, after which Mayawati’s government was formed with the help of BJP in the state, but Dubey was not touched. After this, the Mulayam Singh ousted Mayawati’s government in the state, but still, there was no decrease in Dubey’s political clout, rather he emerged stronger, which was not possible without any political patronage. In Yogi Raj, Dubey’s clout continued for 3 years and it is said that Dubey also had close relations with many officials and ministers of the Yogi government. Allegations are also being levelled against Yogi government’s Law Minister Brajesh Pathak, who used to be close to gangster Harishankar Tiwari and there was a time ‘Tada’ was imposed on Pathak. However, the Hindi saying, “Jab saiyan bhaye Kotwal, tab darr kaahe ka” seems apt here.
