Nitish’s woman love |
October 12 2015 |
Nitish Kumar is patting himself on the back saying that his party has paid special attention to women’s reservation and the municipality and panchayat elections are a proof of that. But when it comes to women’s partnership in Assembly, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, Nitish cuts a contradictory picture. In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, out of the 39 JD-U seats, Nitish gave only two to women. If you look at the Rajya Sabha, the JD-U has 12 Parliamentarians there, but none of them are women; neither was a woman nominated for these posts. In the 2010 Assembly elections, the JD-U handed over a party ticket to only 16 women candidates from a total of 142 seats. This time in 2015, only 25 women candidates are contesting the Assembly elections from the Mahagathbandhan, which is a coalition of the JD-U, the RJD and the Congress. Nothing but lollipops for women, Mr Nitish Kumar? |
