Rahul Gandhi’s concern is about the future of Congress in Bihar. Team Rahul still hopes that if the Congress gets a good leader in Bihar, then new doors of possibilities can open for the party there. Earlier, when Rahul held a meeting with the PCC chief, in-charge of Bihar and 19 party MLAs at his residence in Delhi, he had made it clear that the party would now move ahead on its own in the state. The by-elections of Tarapur and Kusheshwar Asthan came as a real ordeal for the Congress. In both these constituencies, the security of Congress candidates was forfeited. The biggest problem of Congress in Bihar is that every veteran leader of the party is sympathetic either to Nitish or Lalu. Rajesh Kumar Mishra, the Congress candidate in Tarapur, was a parachute candidate who came from America. He had nothing to do with the local party organization. The in-charge of the assembly Sameer Kumar Singh is who is close to Nitish Kumar. Sameer’s father has also been a minister in the Nitish government. When Sameer was filing his nomination for the seat of the Legislative Council, Nitish had helped him a lot internally.For the Kusheshwar Asthan by-election, Congress had initially made Shyam Sunder Singh Dheeraj in-charge but Lalu put pressure and got his confidant Akhilesh Singh appointed as in charge of the seat. Akhilesh was a minister in the UPA government in the quota of RJD. Rahul entrusted Meira Kumar and Nikhil Kumar to campaign here, but both these leaders were already in touch with Lalu and Lalu had promised to send them to Rajya Sabha. Tariq Anwar kept demanding a helicopter for himself from the party, but the helicopter was already occupied by the party’s local leaders. Three election meetings of Tariq were held selectively, but there was no crowd in that either. The state president Madan Mohan Jha and in-charge Bhakta charan Das held a press conference in Patna’s Sadaqat Ashram and openly declared that the Congress was not winning the election then who would cast vote for the Congress.
