Ghulam Nabi Azad has sent a 5-page letter to Congress President Sonia Gandhi announcing his resignation from the primary membership. In this letter, he has directly blamed Rahul Gandhi for the current condition of the Congress. Interestingly, in this letter, Sanjay Gandhi is mentioned more than Rajiv Gandhi. Apart from the first two pages, Sanjay’s heroism has also been mentioned on the last page of the letter. Going by the text of the letter, it seems that old Sanjay loyalists may also find an important place in Ghulam Nabi’s new party. In this letter, Ghulam Nabi, recalling the early days of his political career, has mentioned his close relationship with Sanjay.

He said that he was influenced by the ideas of Gandhi, Nehru, Patel, Bose and Abul Kalam Azad from student life and took over the chairmanship of the Jammu and Kashmir Youth Congress in 1975-76 after Sanjay Gandhi asked him for this.

“I became the President of Youth Congress in 1980 after the tragic death of Sanjay Gandhi,” he said. Azad has questioned the Congress leadership at a time when the Congress is busy preparing for the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’.
