नीतीश कुमार ने भी 2024 के आम चुनाव को अपनी प्रतिष्ठा से जोड़ लिया है। इसके लिए वे साम-दाम दंड भेद हर नीति को आजमाने को तैयार हैं। अभी हाल में नीतीश ने नैतिकता के तमाम मापदंडों को धत्ता बताते हुए और विरोध के तमाम सुरों की अनसुनी करते महज़ जातीय संतुलनों को साधने के लिए जेल नियमों में बदलाव कर 27 लोगों की जेल से रिहाई करवाई है, इनमें से एक प्रदेश के बड़े राजपूत नेता आनंद मोहन सिंह भी हैं। रिहा किए गए लोगों में 8 यादव, 5 मुस्लिम, 4 राजपूत, 3 भूमिहार, 2 कोइरी, 1 कुर्मी, 1 गंगोता और 1 नोनिया जाति से संबंध रखने वाले लोग हैं। नीतीश की चिंता इस बात को लेकर थी कि वर्तमान में जदयू और राजद में कोई बड़ा राजपूत नेता नहीं है, प्रदेश अध्यक्ष जगदानंद सिंह राजद के बस चेहरा दिखाऊ नेता ही बच गए हैं। वैसे भी राजपूत वोटरों का झुकाव इन दिनों भाजपा की ओर ज्यादा हो गया है। भूमिहार पारंपरिक रूप से भाजपा के ही वोटर हैं। सो, आनंद मोहन की रिहाई से प्रदेश के 7-8 प्रतिशत राजपूत वोटरों को साधने की बाजीगरी हुई है। माना जाता है कि प्रदेश की दबंग जातियों में शुमार राजपूत जाति प्रदेश की 7-8 लोकसभा और 30-35 विधानसभा सीटों पर निर्णायक भूमिका निभाती हैं, नीतीश की सारी कवायद इसी जातीय संतुलन को साधने की है।
