The new one is about Geneva’s HSBC Bank. The stolen list with the names of account holders had names of 50,000 names. The list got stolen and first reached Israel, where they took down the names of the Jews and then refused to buy the list. The person with the list was also bullied that if he made too much noise, he may even be imprisoned. The person ran to France from there, where he struck a deal with the French government. The list doesn’t have the name of the person, nor does it contain the contact information about the account holders, it merely has the passport numbers of the people. When the French government sifted through the list, it brought out the names of 792 Indians through their passport numbers. The French government handed over the list to India, which was the biggest revelation so far or black money hoarded on foreign shores.

Why is the UPA government in the Centre so defensive about the black money issue? If reliable sources are to be believed, as many as five central ministers have the needle of suspicion pointing to them. Of these at least two of them are ministers from Madhya Pradesh, one from Punjab and one from a state adjoining Delhi. The said list that is with the Indian government has names of 792 Indians. It is being said that the account holders have money ranging from Rs 10 crore to Rs 8,000 crore. The maximum money is said to belong to a trust that is run by an Indian corporate house. There have been previous instances when names of account holders in Swiss banks have been leaked, lists have been stolen. Once such a list was bought by the German government for the asked price.

From the other side of the barricade, a group of angry students from Allahabad University who were angry because they hadn’t been given the permission to form a union were showing black flags to Rahul Gandhi and shouting slogans against him. Of these boys, one managed to get out of the barricade and rushed towards the helipad. Before the police could get there, Jitin, Pramod Tiwari and RPN Singh were upon him and beating him. But Rahul wasn’t too happy with this. Later, Mulayam and Akhilesh clarified that he was not an SP worker. Which means SP wants to continue extending its hand to the Congress.

So is Mallya really in such grave trouble or is he a rich owner of a poor company? On papers, the company has shown a loss of Rs 7,800 crore but the real loss could be much more. The company even sees profit in buying big ships and that is the reason it buys an F1 team for Rs 641 crore in a flash. But have the financial institutions lost complete trust in the company’s management that they now want the company accounts to be taken care of by the banks?

There was several reasons why the UPA in the government is so soft on Vijay Mallya of Kingfisher. Otherwise you wouldn’t have seen everyone from Vyalar Ravi to the prime minister supporting a bailout package for a sinking Kingfisher Airlines. It is believed that Mallya still has his clout intact in the politics in Karnataka and that he has such a lot of influence on at least 13 Assembly members that they will do Mallya’s bidding. Mallya also gets along well with Sharad Pawar and the Congress is aware of it.

Pranab da seems to be worried about the troubles ailing the Indian corporate sector. He has recently suggested to a delegation of the corporate world that they must not only bring the ruling parties but also the Opposition under confidence. Pranab da’s plan is to invite members of FICCI and CII for a meeting along with political leaders from the government as well as Opposition parties. Only when both sides of the political world listen to the problems of the corporate world will the government be able to announce a rehabilitation package for corporations in trouble.

The Parliamentary Account Committee (PAC ) might question Mukesh Ambani regarding the KG Basin and summon him. If the PAC passes a ruling, the matter might be sent to the Parliament for debate. None of the political parties are ready to forgive them. Yes, the finance ministry is on their side, but the other members of the committee are in no mood to relent.

Remember how tow Assembly members filed a petition against Jagan in the high court and asked for a CBI enquiry against him about various matters, and the court gave the permission for a CBI enquiry? In the same way, later YSR Reddy’s wife and son Jagan had filed a petition against Chandrababu Naidu at the Andhra Pradesh High Court, and it has passed an order. The court has given a green signal to an enquiry against Chandrababu by the CBI, Income Tax and the ED. Which means the Congress has got a big matter to cash on. With this Chandababu has joined the list of other Opposition leaders such as Mayavati, Mulayam, Badal, Chautala, Jayalalithaa, Lalu, Jagan, Madhu Kauda who are under a CBI investigation.
