What is the real target of Rahul’s ‘yatra’?

September 24 2022

Rahul and Congress are in awe of the initial successes of the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’. This visit of Rahul is also intended to give a big jump to the Congress’s seat count in 2024. Keeping in view the ’24 elections, Rahul’s ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ is passing through the same states where the Congress is seeing some ray of hope for itself, where they have a cadre, a leader and thus, a hope. Where there is no hope, like in Uttar Pradesh, the ‘Yatra’ has been reduced to 5 days. Those states have also been left where the Congress is dependent on its allies, such as Tamil Nadu, where the Congress’s journey lasted only 3 days. The journey started from Kanyakumari and reached Kerala on the third day, because of the Congress politics in Tamil Nadu is dependent on DMK. Rahul’s journey is to last 19 days in a small state like Kerala, 21 days in Karnataka and 13 days in Telangana. That is, in a journey of 148 days, Rahul is spending 53 days only in those 3 states of the South. Similarly, the assembly elections are to be held in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh next year, where the Congress wants to maintain its previous performance. Rahul’s journey in Rajasthan is of 21 days and in Madhya Pradesh it is of 16 days. It will be of 11 days in Punjab and 12 days in Haryana. At the same time, the journey in Delhi will be reduced to just 2 days. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, there were 29 seats where the BJP defeated the Congress by a small margin and 57 seats where the BJP’s victory margin from the Congress was less than one lakh. So, this time on these 86 Lok Sabha seats, Congress wants to put its full emphasis and wants to at least double its seats as compared to 2019.
