This non-resident Indian businessman met with Ram Madhav, who gives final shape to Modi’s foreign trips and ensures they are a success, and shared a wireframe idea of hosting a dinner for wealthy Indians living in the US, in Modi’s honour. It is believed that after getting the go-ahead from Team Modi, Chatwal started to collect $1,000 per person for the dinner. Chatwal’s agenda was clear: give $1,000, dine with Modi. People started to give money to take part in it, but when Team Modi got a whiff of the fact that money is being made in the name of dinner with Modi, the charity dinner by Chatwal was scrapped.
