Why do Modi-Shah like Khulbe?

October 26 2014

Bhaskar Khulbe, a 1983 batch IAS from West Bengal cadre being made the Additional Secretary in the PMO is indicative of the fact that West Bengal might be the next destination for Amit-Shah duo. Khulbe, who is a resident of Uttarakhand, is known as an honest, able and dynamic officer who knows everything about Bengal politics. When Buddhadeb Bhattacharya was the chief minister of West Bengal, he appointed Khulbe as his resident commissioner in Delhi. Additionally, he was also the advisor in the Ministry of Industry. When Mamata Banerjee took over the state, Khulbe inadvertently became a target. Seeing a tug-of-war going on between him and her state finance minister Amit Mitra, she removed Khulbe from the resident commissioner’s post and asked him to come to Kolkata. Sensing that Mamata is angry, Khulbe made an excuse about his wife’s poor health and went on a long leave. Just before the Lok Sabha elections, he was appointed as a joint secretary with the Central government’s Department of Personnel and Training, and his way to the PMO became easy. Actually Modi and Amit Shah both were in search for an officer who not only has a finger on West Bengal’s pulse, but has full information about the state. Needless to say, Khulbe has full knowledge about the Sharda chit fund scam and coal block scam. In the coming Assembly elections, the BJP may use all this information as a tool.
