Tough Fight Faces Sinha In Ghazipur

April 29 2019

Sangh and Modi’s pet Manoj Sinha was one of the few ministers of the Modi government who worked day-in-day-out for their constituencies. Sinha’s opponents to agree that the plethora of schemes that he showered on Ghazipur for its development and the amount of funds he was able to get allocated from the State and Central governments to implement the schemes, were never done by any previous MPs.
But, oh the irony! Despite all that he is still standing a weaker candidate in front of an opponent like Afzal Ansari. Mukhtar Ansari’s brother Afzal is a candidate of the Grand Alliance here and as per the caste equation, he emerges stronger contender.
Ghazipur was once known as the stronghold of the Bhumihars, the caste Sinha belongs to. But post the new delimitation, a huge chunk of Bhumihars has gone to Ballia parliamentary constituency. It is said as many as 2.5 Bhumihar voters have gone to Ballia. Bhumihar-dominant areas like Reotipur, Sevpur, Jamania and Mohammadabad are all now a part of Ballia.
It is said that Ghazipur now remains with only 75,000 Bhumihar votes. The constituency has converted into a Yadav-dominant area where SP enjoys a new stronghold. Om Prakash Rajbhar’s anger towards BJP is also costing Sinha heavily, as here over 1.5 lakh voters are Rajbhar who are breaking away from BJP.
Post his exit from BJP, Ramakant Yadav wanted to contest on the Congress ticket from here. But the Congress instead sent him to Bhadohi. Had Ramakant been contesting from here, at least a bifurcation of the Yadav votebank was possible. All in all Sinha is faced with the toughest fight till date.
