Lobbying for the next CBI chief

November 05 2012

Sharad Sinha of Bihar cadre may well have taken the lead when it comes to the appointment as the next CBI chief, but the race was being run by several heavyweights. For instance, Delhi Police’s Niraj Kumar, Sharad Sinha of Haryana cadre and Atul Kumar of UP cadre. But Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda was aggressively lobbying for Sharad Sinha. Sources reveal that he had even met the all-powerful in the Congress Ahmad Patel for Sinha. Hooda has the blessings of Patel. The idea of Delhi Police Chief Niraj Kumar among the Congress high command nowadays is that he is a tad soft on Arvind Kejriwal. That is why the people of India Against Corruption can manage to sit on a dharna at 10, Janpath or 7, Race Course anytime they want. They cordon the residence of Bhupinder Singh Hooda in Delhi but the Delhi Police stands there as a mute spectator. That is why Niraj Kumar’s name from the race was scrapped. Hooda was mighty excited about Sharad Sinha and had managed to assure Ahmad Patel that the Vadra matter will get some relief with his coming. By getting his own CBI chief, not only does Hooda want no trouble for himself, he wants the CBI tighten its noose around Chautala and his sons. But because of his intervention from the PMO, he couldn’t achieve his target.
