General Election 2019 on Pre-Planned Schedule?

August 06 2018

There were various speculations doing rounds that the General Elections 2019 may prepone and take place in February itself. But these hearsay are slowly toning down, and the reason behind it none other than the ruling government. Narendra Modi-led NDA government is all set to celebrate the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2019 from January 21-23 in Varanasi. The Indian diaspora will then return to New Delhi in time to witness the Republic Day parade on January 26 in presence of US President Donald Trump.
It is well known that Pravasi Divas is celebrated every year on January 9, the reason being it is the date when Mahatma Gandhi returned to India from South Africa.
But the Modi government has a habit of re-scripting history basis logics best known and understood to them. So it is possible that the postponing of the celebration will be again backed by a good, new reason. And conveniently, it so happens that PM Modi was already to visit Varanasi on these dates. So the postponement of Pravasi Divas and the ‘concidental’ visit of the PM to his constituency at the same time are giving major pre-election woo-vibes.
Were General Elections 2019 to happen in February, then as per norms the code of conduct must go in-effect by December end. Going by the late January plans of the Modi government, it seems that the General Elections will not take place in February, but on their usual time.
