AI’s Art Wealth and O’Brien

July 09 2018

The privatization of India’s official carrier Air India has failed to get off the block, and now the Modi government has stated that the process can only be restarted in 2019. In the meanwhile Air India has landed in another tussle. Apparently, it owns precious art collection worth crores. Now, the Ministry of Culture was eyeing to bag those worthies for free. Upon which, Trinamool Congress MP Derek O’Brien sent in his objection, asking why the carrier, so deep in the red, should not sell off the stuff through a public auction and raise money to save its soul. O’Brien is also learnt to have written a formal note against the move and put in the spanners on this issue of a free gift to culture ministry.
