Patra Past Patronisation

Posted on 20 November 2018 by admin

Sambit Patra’s ‘achhe din’ seem to be facing the curtains. The saffron media marauder, the apple of the eye of both Modi and Shah till not so long ago, seems to have been losing his Midas touch with the two bosses. The bosses were once extremely fond of his handling of TV debates. But now there is a volte-face that the kind of unseemly over-dramatisation and course choice of language that Patra has been indulging in is sullying the image of the BJP. Ashok Road bees hum that the party has suitably warned him against his choice of words and his theatrics and asked him to return to some level of being ‘dignified’. So, he seems to have lost out the sure chance of warming a seat in Rajya Sabha, and he has been told to ready to hit the dirt and grime of fighting a Lok Sabha seat from Odisha.

Piyush Drubbing Ambani

Posted on 20 November 2018 by admin

In the ruling dispensation, if Piyush Goyal, Modi-Shah’s blue-eyed boy, gets after your short and curly, you are not getting out of that easily, and such seems to be the case with Anil ‘Rafale’ Ambani. PM Modi’s unease over the Rafale issue can well be understood, with the Congress and its president Rahul Gandhi not only pinning Ambani drown on the issue, but also bent on dragging Modi into the mire. Possibly it is Goyal’s displeasure that Ambani could bag no favours for his power company with Goyal in the ministerial seat. Goyal has taken shelter behind a so-called prime ministerial diktat that no company should be favoured out of the way, but the real story goes back a long way. Years ago, Piyush Goyal’s father, Ved Prakash Goyal, had been a minister in the government of Atal Bihari Vajpayee. It was then that Anil and Ved Prakash happened to meet a wedding ceremony. The minister in all decency greeted Anil and went forward to embrace him. But Anil simply ignored him and passed ahead. So then, Piyush Goyal is now making Anil lick the dust after so many years.

Rahul Excuses Himself

Posted on 20 November 2018 by admin

“Usually reliable sources”, as the parlance goes in political journalism, say Rahul Gandhi has affirmed to his inner core that he is not in the hunt for the Prime Ministerial seat in the 2019 polls, rather than his sole ‘eye of the bird’ much in the Arjuna fashion, is ousting the BJP fro power, for which he is game for any grand alliance of opposition parties and accept any top opposition leader. The top names doing the rounds are Maratha powerhouse Sharad Pawar, closely followed by Chandrababu Naidu. Mayawati and Bengal stormy petrel Mamata Banerjee also figure but could be ‘also-rans’. Pawar seems to be the best networked. On the one hand, he is strident on the farmers’ issues, while on the other he is glove-in-sleeves with many corporates. Pawar is also ‘homely’ with Mamata, Naveen Patnaik, and even Akali scion Sukhbir Badal. Naidu is playing the consummate personage. In New Delhi, Mamata’s drone Derek O’Brien is phishing, and Maya has intensified her bonhomie with leaders of other parties.
The PARTY starts now!

Rahul’s Hindi Prem

Posted on 20 November 2018 by admin

Rahul Gandhi and spoken Hindi seem to be like an off-verse affair. And yet, the Gandhi scion has started taking to proper Hindi as a duck to the water of late. His speeches are not only in healthy Hindi, but he is often quoting fabled poets such as Dinkar. His sudden transformation is surprising not only because of his speeches but also of his barrage of Hindi tweets. Behind this meta-change is primarily Sandip Singh, a JNU student from Bihar. But who is he? That’s for his bête noir to find out.

Divya Vs Nikhil

Posted on 20 November 2018 by admin

The internecine sniper fighting within the Congress social media war room seems no sign of calming down, split it as it is between Divya Spandana and Nikhil Alva. The old guard is rallied around Alva, but the chunk of youth leaders are clearly with Divya. While the elders are suggesting to Rahul that the aggressive postures of Divya are hurting the party, the youth leaders are insisting that it is Divya who has got the party’s social media out of the ventilator and is battling the BJP’s dirty tricks department brickbat by brickbat. But with Rahul by her side, Divya has covered her past faux and is out to prove her might.

Priyanka From Rae Bareli?

Posted on 20 November 2018 by admin

Signals from 10 Janpath suggest that the ailing Sonia Gandhi may not be fit enough to go through the rigours of another Lok Sabha trial at the hustings. The inside news is also that instead of battling it out in Rae Bareli, Sonia would traverse the country to wide campaign for the Congress and its allies. So clearly, the option is that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will contest from Rae Bareli, though Gandhi closet thinkers say she has left it entirely to mom Sonia and bro Rahul.

Indefensible Conclave

Posted on 20 November 2018 by admin

The event of the India Defence Conclave 2018 this year on November 15 at a Five Star hotel in the capital and its launch by Union Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has left the security firmament in the country because it is well known that the owner of the hotel is an inside player in many defence deals.

Rahul’s Shiv Bhakti Roots

Posted on 20 November 2018 by admin

In the toss-and-turn of the current Indian politics marching towards the 2019 general polls, Rahul Gandhi’s sudden Shiv Bhakti (devotion), the Lords of the Saffron are taken aback, especially bit around the middle by his Kailash Manasarovar Yatra, which has frayed their Hindutva placard quite a few notches suitably. So is this just the ‘bought media’ propaganda about him playing soft Hindutva, or is there something firmer behind that?
But cuckoos in Tughlak Lane gardens coo that there is nothing immediately political in his move. In fact, it was after the terrible Kedarnath catastrophe in 2013, which deluge killed thousands when Rahul had visited the area, that he had indeed confided that he desired a visit to Manasarovar. It was since then that his spiritual propensities started manifesting themselves. Gandhi family insiders are well aware that grandmother Indira Gandhi was a distinctly devout Shiv worshipper. She had ordained that every member of the family would meditate on the Gayatri Mantra every morning and that every Hindu festival would be celebrated at home. In fact, she had appointed specified priests at home, and whenever she would visit a sacred site, she would open her purse wide in donations.
This Deepavali evening, Goddess Laxmi was worshipped at 10 Janpath and Sonia Gandhi had adorned Rahul personally with the teeka. Rahul’s spiritual spirit often takes a jump, just as he, during the last Gujarat polls, visited as many temples as possible.
Sources say that it the near future, Rahul will fire his salvo against the BJP saying there is no conflict between personal spiritual faith and secularism. Spiritualism is a personal thing, but secularism is torpedoed when religion crosses personal boundaries and is used by some either to come to power or to retain it at any cost.
This is the rise of the new Rahul, who realises that just emoting with Muslim sentiments is not enough, and it is important to cater to the majority Hindu norms.

Trumping Kushwaha

Posted on 20 November 2018 by admin

Bihar CM Nitish Kumar has been keeping a hawk eye on the machinations of Upendra Kushwaha. Nitish realised long ago that by just carving out the image of a Kurmi caste leader, he would be able to cull out just two per cent of the Bihar vote share, whereas if he could position himself as a leader of all three, Kurmi, Koeri and Dhanuk communities, he could bag 10 per cent of the seats. Hence, Nitish had a key role to play in ousting Kushwaha from the BJP-led NDA. On the one hand, BJP boss Amit Shah kept assuring Kushwaha that since the NDA and RJD’s relationship will last only till December, what Kushwaha desires shall be done. On the other hand, Shah kept his political games with Nitish going.
Had Kushwaha not salivated after a Central ministerial spot and joined back RJD a few months earlier, RJD boss Lalu Prasad would perforce grant him 5-6 seats in Bihar. Now Lalu is in a fix. He has to grant some seats for the Congress, CPI, Jitan Ram Manjhi, Sharad Yadav, Pappu Yadav and others too. Pappu is the biggest problem, for he is demanding both Supaul and Madhepura. Yet, Sharad Yadav is also demanding the Madhepura seat. If the alchemy does no go all right, it is possible that Nitish could open a new front with Kushwaha and Dipankar Bhattacharya. If Kushwaha fights from within this group, or even independently, Lalu has nothing to lose, since Kushwaha would only cut into the BJP votes. So now Kushwaha will soon have to finalise his strategy.

CPI in the Red

Posted on 12 November 2018 by admin

Perhaps the oldest political party in India after the Congress is the Communist Party of India, CPI. While it often was a sort of prince during the UPA rule, now it has become a pauper. Such is the penury that it is hardly able clear the expenses at the national headquarters. It has been a long-standing tradition of the party that anyone elected as an MP or MLA would deposit their entire monthly emoluments with the HQ. From this central fund, the party would give Rs 13,000 per month to such MPs, MLAs or full-time workers to meet with their personal expenses. But over the last few years, the number of MPs or MLAs from the party has drastically reduced. So where will the money come from now? The party’s only fallback is its Kerala unit, but the money it sends is still not enough. So now senior leaders like D Raja have stopped going to the office and are working out of home.
