Rahul Lashes TV Lackeys

Posted on 30 October 2018 by admin

Of late Rahul Gandhi has decided to shed a part of his ‘gentleman’ image and take the media bull by the horns, and spoken directly to the editors of the top news channels. His contention is that if Congress reps invited to participate in political debates are simply not allowed to speak, why call them at all? Rahul also spanked them over the media getting ‘adopted’. He said that rather than functioning as independent journalists, these anchors are increasingly working as the mouth pieces of the ruling party. Rahul reminded the editors that anchors should stop face-saving for the government, for which the BJP sends its own spokespersons. Rahul also did not spare his own party’s spokespersons and said they have to aggressively put across their points. Rahul even told the editors that if they do not mend their ways, Congress will not hesitate to boycott these ‘bought’ channels. It is being said that some channels could be making some amends.

More Yen for Gujarat

Posted on 30 October 2018 by admin

Prime Minister Modi and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe will summit once again on October 28 and 29, and it will all about money for Gujarat. Japan has recently released Rs 5,500 crore for the Bullet Train project. The coming months will see the foundation stones for many big industries being laid only in Gujarat. The tender has been issued for the major Navsari Bridge in the state. Many more such tenders are coming up.
The funds released by Japan are routed through Japan International Cooperation Agency, the rule is that at least 50 per cent such companies will have to have joint ventures with Japanese companies.
It is learnt that Japan is interested in investing in defence projects in India, and signing of a “Cross-servicing Agreement” between the armies of the two countries could be in the pipeline.

CBI HQ ‘Haunted’?

Posted on 30 October 2018 by admin

Looking at the spate of troubles in the CBI, many officials in the agency believe that the new headquarters building could be cursed. The CBI shifted to its new building towards the beginning of 2016. Observers say that since day one after that there has been rounds and rounds of crises, especially involving the top bosses. The troubles first shot off with then director AP Singh, then it singed Ranjit Sinha and now the Verma-Asthana war. Thus it is that some senior officers are getting their own offices ‘cleansed’ by organizing pujas. Some are seeking the help of the famous Babas and astrologers, and some have even resorted to tantra. The fish in any troubled water is always a rich haul!

Ghulam Nabi’s Political ICU

Posted on 30 October 2018 by admin

You heard it right from Mirch Masala last week. Congress prodigal boy Tariq Anwar, till now in NCP, has ‘repatriated’ and is not only likely to become a general secretary but hold the charge of UP, giving Ghulam Nabi Azad myocardial infarctions. So dropping all old grievances and attritions, he has rushed to Salman Khurshid and Congress strongman Ahmad Patel, seeking a remedial strategy. Azad also rushed off to Katihar to assess how much sheen Anwar still retains in his old constituency. Tariq, of course, is also doing his homework.
Last week, Azad organised a large meeting of UP’s Muslim leaders in New Delhi with the help of Fazl-e-Mehmood. Meanwhile, the Congress in Bihar is angry because they do not want the ‘interference of any Gujarati politician’ there, reference being to Alpesh Thakore and Jignesh Mevani. Finally, Azad knocked on the doors of senior Congress leader Shyam Sundar Singh Dhiraj, but was sent back with empty hands.

Farmers’ Flop Show

Posted on 30 October 2018 by admin

Recall Nana Phalgunrao Patole, who had won on a BJP ticket in Maharashtra, but later swam across to the Congress? Recently, he had been tasked with organizing a massive farmer’s rally in the capital to expose the BJP government’s anti-farmer policies. He met Rahul Gandhi, who agreed to lead the rally. But the task of getting farmers to Delhi was taken away from Haryana leader Deepender Singh Hooda and given to Kiran Chaudhary. A miffed Hooda sabotaged, and the rally remained a poor show. In fact, so poor was it that Rahul had already set out to address the rally, but rearing of the response, went back home. So Nana’s first show has become a ‘no-no’.

Rajasthan’s ‘Pendings’

Posted on 30 October 2018 by admin

The Congress is going great guns in poll-bound Rajasthan. But internal strife is also surfacing. Take Beena Kak from Pali, senior Congress leader and former minister who has been contesting from Sumerpur. But state in charge Sachin Pilot wants Chetna Sharma to contest from there this time. When the blast happened, Rahul Gandhi stepped and put the decision pending. Similarly, from the Jaipur Rural seat of Bagdu, Ganga Devi had won in 2008, and senior leader Mukul Wasnik has been pushing her case this time too. Seeing that Damyanti Bakauliya of the Regad community has the best claim, Rahul has also kept a decision here pending.

An Eye For An Eye

Posted on 30 October 2018 by admin

Senior journalist and recently unseated junior minister MJ Akbar, who was felled by the MeToo leg-cutter, is believed to be now writing a book. He wants to expose the Congress through this tome. Scuttlebutt is that the book will have some earth shaking revelations on late Rajiv Gandhi and his friend Arun Gandhi. Both BJP and Akbar want the book to be released before the 2019 polls.

Centrally Splitting

Posted on 30 October 2018 by admin

The serious internal feud between Alok Verma and Rakesh Asthana in the country’s premier investigation agency, CBI, is rocking the political firmament, with the very government split down the middle. While Asthana has the backing of the PM and big guns like Arun Jaitley, NSA Ajit Doval, Hasmukh Adhia and some senior CBI officials, Verma is being supported by Rajnath Singh, former ED Karnail Singh, the all powerful Principal Secretary in the PMO, Nripendra Misra, Subramanian Swamy and others. What is scary is that Modi’s shadow himself party boss Amit Shah is willy-nilly supporting Verma. The PMO could see the signs of this trouble growing, especially when the request was made for the arrest of Asthana and the file was sent to the Department of Personnel. That was a rude wake-up call for the government. It is learnt that earlier the PMO had summoned the two officers and asked them to douse the flames, but it did not work. Lots of file work continued on both sides. Interestingly, of the 13 officials shunted from the HQ, 12 belong to the Verma group. Shockingly, the letter to Asthana says that even during this leave, he will be entitled to travel and other allowances, but Verma’s letter does not say so. It is evident that the Supreme Court will issue some stern orders, but may be more, that in the coming days the CBI may have to function under SC’s supervision.

Will Atul Anjaan Contest from Ghosi ?

Posted on 30 October 2018 by admin

Birds from Lucknow whisper that SP chief Akhilesh Yadav and Congress prez Rahul Gandhi recently had a long telephonic talk. They say that Rahul has made it clear to Akhilesh that whether SP agrees about a grand alliance in UP, including Congress and Ajit Singh’s Rashtriya Lok Dal, it is absolutely necessary for SP and BSP to stand together to crush the BJP in 2019 polls. It is known that BSP chief Mayawati has agreed to announce an alliance with SP in coming January, but she is not keen about RLD and Congress. It is in this context that Rahul has told Akhilesh that Congress might go it alone in UP, but will only put up candidates in its strong seats. Recall that in the last LS by-polls of 3 seats, Congress had put up a candidate only in Gorakhpur. Akhilesh on his part has assured Rahul that even if the Congress is left out in an alliance in UP, his party or the BSP will not put up candidates from Sonia Gandhi’s Amethi and Rahul’s Rae Bareli. And leftist leader Atul Anjaan will contest from Ghosi.
For the moment it is clear sailing for Mayawati and Akhilesh, much reprieved with the lenses of the CBI focused internally rather than on them.

Ram Mandir Rising Slogan

Posted on 23 October 2018 by admin

Over the last four-and-half years one has not heard a whisper on the kettledrum issue of the Ram Mandir from either PM Modi, nor BJP boss Amit Shah, not even the RSS. But within a few months away from the 2019 general polls, RSS chief has raked up the issue not once but thrice within a month. UP CM Yogi Adityanath has also upped the ante, and the Sadhu Samaj has declared its decision to have the Mandir by December 6. The ruling BJP has a thorn in its flesh, though: how can it come up with an ordinance overruling the Supreme Court order on the issue? So news from Ashok Road is that the battle for the Mandir will now be engaged via the social media. So the Hindu-Muslim divide is being fanned up in the Hindi belt. The game plan is that the digital media war room in Delhi will have the controls in its hands, and its signals will be taken up by the social media teams in the states and they will bring this out right down to the booth levels in the state capitals. The saffron party’s determination is strong, its preparations well knight. The problem, though, is grave: of breaking up ties.
